A Message From our Board of Directors

The Board of Directors founded Go Global School after doing research on schools in our hometown of Siem Reap, and finding that we were dissatisfed with their ideas on education. All of us have young children, and we want them to have every opportunity. We want them to learn from the best, and we want them to be happy and engaged in the classroom. After two years at the Siem Reap campus, we are very excited about the unique kind of community that we have created, and we hope you will let us share some of our ideas with you.

The Board of Directors after their first Go Global School meeting.

First, we want our children to learn from experienced and qualified teachers for the duration of their education at Go Global School. All too often, schools in Cambodia are forced to work with inexperienced native English speakers who stay for six weeks or six months before moving on to their next adventure. We want our sons and daughters to have the chance to be taught with the same standard of education that children are getting overseas in developed countries.

Second, class time should include lessons and assessments as well as interaction and games, activities and role play. The traditional style of teaching in Cambodia has not been very successful for the newest generation of students. Children do not learn best when they copy paragraphs and work only from notebooks. The more ways a student is taught something, the better they will understand it.

On the same subject, children should work hard in school, but also be allowed time to play and simply be children. School should be fun. Children should enjoy coming to school, so that they will enjoy learning. The world is wild and exciting, and children at our school are being taught that there are an infinite amount of new and interesting things for them to learn about the world outside of Siem Reap.

Cambodian children should also learn more about their history and their culture. If children understand Cambodia’s history, they will understand their parents better, and they will better understand what Cambodia needs in the future. We hope that more schools in Cambodia will teach their students about our beautiful culture. If more Cambodian children love and respect their home, hopefully they will work hard in the future to help make the country great. Well educated Cambodians often go abroad for work, but we hope that we can teach our children that they are the ones who can make a difference here in the Kingdom once they are adults.

Third, it is important for our children to be around many different kinds of people – people from different countries who speak many languages and could be from poor or wealthy families. We designed our school logo to represent people of all different colors holding hands around a globe. We want to teach our kids and their peers as much about the big world as possible. They should understand where they are from, and they should understand where they can go.

In the future, we hope that our school will have the resources to expand, so that we can continue to educate our Primary School students at the high school level. Go Global School is constantly growing and changing, and we are excited to see where we will be in five, 10 or 20 years.

We hope that you will join us in our efforts to support the growth and development of Cambodia’s youth. It takes strong individuals to stand up and ask for change, but we want that change for the wellbeing of our children, and that is why we do what we do. That is why Go Global School exists today.
